About Expanded Distribution in CreateSpace (CreateSpace 에서의 Expanded Distribution 에 대해)

일단 결론부터 말하자면 "글쎄 올시다" 입니다.
Expanded Distribution 을 사용하면 온라인에서 뿐만 아니라
오프라인에서도 판매가 가능해집니다.
신청 가격도 25달러로 비싸지는 않은 편입니다.
서점 및 온라인 소매업체(Bookstores and Online Retailers)와
도서관 및 교육기관(Libraries & Academic Institutions) 에
확장배포(Expanded Distribution) 되어집니다.
솔깃하지요?
그래서 3권 아브라함과 이삭 (The Story of Abraham & Isaac)에서는
확장배포(Expanded Distribution) 를 사용했습니다.

My conclusion to say, "I have my doubts."
If you use an Expanded Distribution,
it's enable to sell online as well as offline.
The application price is $25, so it's not that pricey.
It makes your book Scale-out deployment(Expanded Distribution) to the Bookstores and online retailers(Bookstores and Online Retailers) and the Libraries and educational institutions(Libraries & Academic Institutions) as well.
Tempting, right?
So I used the Scale-out deployment(Expanded Distribution) for the book #3 Abraham and Isaac(The Story of Abraham & Isaac).

그리고 다음 옵션을 체크하는데 깜짝 놀랐습니다.
최소한으로 설정하는 책값이 너무 비싸게 설정 되어져 있었습니다.
현재 $ 9.13 인데,
이렇게 하면
서점 및 온라인 소매업체(Bookstores and Online Retailers)와
도서관 및 교육기관(Libraries & Academic Institutions) 에
확장배포(Expanded Distribution) 는 되어지지만 이윤은 전혀 생기지 않습니다.
책 팔아 CreateSpace에만 좋은 일 시키는 꼴이 되었습니다.

나는 최소한의 이윤만을 남기고 많은 미취학아동에게
그림을 보여주고 싶은 것이 꿈인데 말입니다.

지금 1권 (The Story of Eden)에서는 Expanded Distribution을 사용하지 않았습니다.
그랬더니 최소책값이 $ 6.09 가 나왔습니다.
3권보다 책장수가 훨씬 많은데도 말입니다.
그래서 책값은 $ 6.99 로 정했습니다.
Royalty는 $0.54 가 되는군요.
8×10 inch 풀컬러책에 34 페이지 책에다 Royalty가 $0.54 에 책값이 $6.99 면
최소한의 이윤만을 남기고 그림을 보여주고 싶은 것 맞네요 :)

다시 한번 더 결론을 말하자면
Expanded Distribution 을 사용하면 사용하지 않았을 때 비해서
책값이 50% 이상 비싸진다는 결론입니다.
정말 Expanded Distribution 을 사용해야 하는게 옳을까요?

And I was surprised to check the following options.
I should set the price to a minimum
but the setting was already made and it was too expensive.
It is currently $9.13 but when you do this,
you can Scale-out deployment(Expanded Distribution) to the Bookstores and online retailers(Bookstores and Online Retailers) and Libraries and educational institutions (Libraries & Academic Institutions) but you don't get any profit.
You sell your book and it's only good for CreateSpace.

My dream was to show my books to as many preschool children as I can,
leaving only a minimal profit.

Now, I'm not using the Expanded Distribution for the book #1 The Story of Eden.
And the minimum price set up is $6.09.
Even though the page length of the book #1 is much longer than #3.
So the price set to $6.99.
The royalty becomes $0.54.
My book is 8×10inch full-colored book,
plus 34 pages long,
the royalty is $0.54,
and the book price is $6.99.
So I guess I'm leaving only a minimal profit to show my pictures for good. :)

I'm telling you once again,
the price of the book becomes 50% more if you use the Expanded Distribution.
Do you think it would be right to use Expanded Distribution?

About the picture size to publish a paper book in CreateSpace (CreateSpace에서 종이책 출판할 때 그림 사이즈에 대해 )

에서 0.125inch를 남겨두기 위해 포토샵 사이즈를 설명하도록 하겠습니다.
I'll explain how to leave 0.125inch in Photoshop size.

이번에는 1권을 종이책 출판하기 위해 준비하기 때문에
1권을 예를 들어 설명하겠습니다.
( 최초 그림 사이즈는 8×10inch 입니다. )
원래는 가로 16.4 inch, 세로 10.25inch로 하면 됩니다.
3권에서는 그렇게 했구요.
하지만, 1권을 이렇게 작업해서 createspace에 등록했더니
Trim사이즈가 모자란다고 에러가 뜨네요.
참으로 난감했습니다.
그래서 이번에는 가로 16.46 inch, 세로 10.288이 되도록 했더니
문제가 생기지 않았습니다.
아무래도 그림 사이즈가 확실하게 커줘야 문제가 생기지 않나 봅니다.
이 점 참조하셔서 작업해 주세요.

This time, I was getting ready to publish the book #1,
so I will explain with that book.
(The first picture size was 8×10inch.)
You can work with original size of Landscape 16.4inch, height 10.25inch.
I used this size for the book #3.
But when I used this sizes to register my book #1 in CreateSpace,
I've got an error message saying that the trim size is not enough.
It was indeed awkward.
So I fixed the horizontal size to 16.46inch, height to be 10.288,
then I won't have any trouble.
Maybe you won't get a trouble if you have a bigger picture size.
Please refer this when you work.

사이즈 조절이 되었다면 이제 두 부분으로 나누어 각각 저장한 후
인디자인에서 작업하시면 되겠습니다.

If the size adjustment is done, divide it into two parts and save.
Now you can work in InDesign.

이것보다 더 완벽하고 쉬울순 없습니다.

I've been struggled for many troubles

and this is the way I found it as I googled.

Nothing will be easier than this.

I'll explain it with the photos.

1.먼저 만든 파일을 .zip으로 압축합니다.

First, create the file and compress it as a. Zip file.

2.압축한게 보이지요?

Can you see that compression?

3..zip의 확장자명을 .epub로 바꿉니다.

Replace the name of the extension from zip to epub.

4.그리고 아마존에서 제공하는 kindlegen.exe에 드래그 합니다.

아래 아마존 링크에서 다운받으세요.

Then drag it to kindlegen.exe which provided from the Amazon.

Download it form the Amazon link below.

5.그럼 자동으로 생성되고 있는 모습니다.

Now, it's automatically create the mobi file.

6.짜잔~~ .mobi파일이 만들어졌지요?

아주 편리하고 에러가 전혀 없습니다.

Ta-da! The mobi file is created.

이것 저것 알아보다 GooglePlay에 도서를 등록할 수 있다는 걸 알게 됐습니다.
이렇게 기쁜일이~^^
아래 사이트에 들어가면 구글플레이에 도서 등록할 수 있는 방법이 나옵니다.

지금 대기하고 있는 중이랍니다.^^
출판사업자 등록증이 있는 경우에는 ISBN을 등록한 후 epub파일을 올릴 수 있구요.
출판사업자 등록증이 없는 경우에는 ISBN 없이도 가능한데
pdf파일로 올릴 수 있답니다.
pdf는 용량이 크고 그림을 한장 한장 볼 수 없는 단점이 있답니다.
용량이 크면 다운받는 사람들이 싫어하겠죠?
그만큼 시간이 걸리니까.
일단 테스트삼아 한번 등록해보고 ISBN 발행해서도 등록해 보겠습니다.

If you have a publishing business registration,

you can register ISBN first then upload epub files.

Even if you don't have a business registration,

you still can register without ISBN but you have to use pdf file.

pdf file has a disadvantage because you can not see the pictures one by one

and the size of the volume is larger.

People won't like it when they download a large file.

That means, it will take more time.

I'm just gonna test it first then register it again with ISBN.

Publishing a paperbook through createspace.com (createspace.com을 통한 paperbook 출판하기)

createspace.com을 통해

3권 The Story of Abraham & isaac이 종이책으로 출판되었습니다.

하지만 kindle edition과 paperback이 한곳에 있지 않고 따로따로 링크가 되어있네요.

createspace.com의 홈페이지를 읽어보면 5일 이내에 링크가 된다고 하는데,

한곳에 된다는 얘긴지 paperback이 링크가 된다는 말인지 잘 모르겠네요.

5일정도 기다려 봐야겠지만 홈페이지를 좀 더 살펴보고 문의해봐야겠습니다.

#3 The Story of Abraham & isaac were published in paperbook

through createspace.com.

But the Kindle edition and the paperback aren't exposed

to view on the same page.

It is linked separately.

The createspace.com website explains that

it will be linked within five days.

But I'm not sure that whether both of the links

will be linked at the same place or not.

So I have to wait for five days,

but I still need to take a look at the website a little more.

아마존에서 동화책을 만드시는 분들에게 도움이 되었으면 합니다.

먼저 Adobe InDesign으로 작업하는 과정은 생략하겠습니다.

CreateSpace에 등록하는 과정에서 우리가 아는 인쇄물 제작과정과 많이 다릅니다.

아주 아주 많은 시행착오 끝에 저처럼 힘들어 하지 않았으면 하는 바람으로

함께 공유하고자 합니다.

자~ 그럼 사진으로 설명해 보겠습니다.

I hope this could be helpful to the people who wants to

publish a picture book on Amazon.

First, the process of working with Adobe InDesign will be omitted.

The process of registering in CreateSpace is very different

than the print production process as we know.

I had to go through so many trials and errors.

So I wanted to share my experiences,

hoping that it doesn't give you so much trouble.

The photo above shows the message that

the file doesn't have any problem at last!

I can't tell you how thrilled I was!!!

1. 인디자인에서 File>Document Setup을 선택합니다.

Select 'File> Document Setup' in InDesign.

2. 이 부분이 중요합니다.

CreateSpace에서는 Bleed가 최소0.125inch 이상이 필요합니다.

한국에서는 3mm를 필요로 하는데 3mm로 했다간 계속 에러가 뜹니다.

또한 0.125inch를 mm로 계산해도 오차가 있으니 반드시

0.125inch로 합니다!!!

Inside에 0inch가 들어간 것은 접히는 부분에 여백이 없어야

책을 펼쳤을 때 그림이 연결돼 보이겠지요?

This part is important.

In CreateSpace, it required the 'Bleed' has to be at least 0.125 inch or above.

In Korea, you need 3mm but if you set it as 3mm,

the error message will keep appears and you'll be in troubIe.

In addition, you'll going to have an error if you calculate 0.125inch to mm,

so it must be 0.125inch!

At 'Inside', you can see 0inch

which is to show the connected image when the book is folded.

3.이제 pdf파일로 보내봅시다.

[Press Quality]를 선택합니다.

Now let's send it as a pdf file.

Select [Press Quality]

4. 원래 인쇄물 pdf로 보내기 위해서 필요한 옵션들을 모두 해제합니다.

이부분 또한 아주 중요합니다.

Bleed and Slug는 체크해 놓습니다.

살펴보면 Document Setup에서 설정한 내용이 보이는군요.

Cancel all the necessary options to send the original pdf print.

This part is also very important.

'Bleed and Slug' needs to be checked.

You can see all the contents set in the 'Document Setup'.

5. 이제 pdf 파일을 업로드 하면 됩니다.

Ends after the edge of the page를 선택합니다.

그래야 책에 꽉차게 그림이 들어갑니다.

오른쪽에 있는 옵션을 선택하면 흰색라인이 생깁니다.

Now you can upload the pdf file.

Select 'Ends after the edge of the page'.

So the picture will be fully filled in the book without any space.

If you select the option to the right, the white line will be appear.

일단 기본적인 제작과정은 알고 있다는 과정하에 중요한 핵심부분만 알려드립니다.

이 부분을 알기 위해 적어도 30시간 이상이 걸렸습니다.

하루 6시간씩만 잡아도 꼬박 5일이 걸리네요.

다른 작업과 병행하다보니 이 부분을 아는데 2주가 걸렸습니다.

도움이 많이 되기를 바랍니다.

I explained only the important part under the assumption that

the readers of this article knows the basic production process.

To learn this part took me more than 30 hours at least.

If you work on 6 hours each day, it'll take the whole 5 days.

But it took me 2 weeks to learn because

I've been combining this work with some other job.
