The example of exact margin size to publish in CreateSpace (CreateSpace 출판하기 위해 예로 든 정확한 사이즈)

CreateSpace에서는 일반 인쇄를 생각한 Pdf 만들기와 다릅니다.
특히나 양쪽이 연결된 그림책 같은 경우에는 정말 신중해야 합니다.
CreateSpace에서 제공하는 Preview랑 출판물이랑 차이가 있네요.
제 책을 발간하고 좀 많이 주문했어요.
배송비랑 합쳐서 무려 $200 나 주문했는데,

In CreateSpace, it's quite different than the general print making of Pdf file.
Especially when the pictures are connected to both side, it really needs to be careful.
The publications are different than the preview provided by CreateSpace.
After publication, I ordered my book a bit much.
I spend $200 include shipping,
but I'm working on new ones now.

제아무리 PDF작업에서 안쪽은 안짤리게 해도

무심한 CreateSpace에서는 짤라버립니다.

그러니 일단 넉넉히 0.125 inch 를 남겨둡니다.

Width

16 inch + 0.125×2(inside) + 0.25×2(outside) = 16.75

Outside에 0.125×2=0.25 inch 씩 남겨두는 것은 

그림이 최대한 안짤리도록 하는 것입니다.

Height

10 inch + 0.125×2 = 10.25

No matter how you work in PDF to do not cut the pictures,

careless CreateSpace chop off everything.

So leave 0.125 inch.

Width

16inch+0.125×2(inside)+0.25×2(outside)=16.75

Outside 0.125×2=0.25inch increments for leaving
is the way to avoid the pictures being cut out.

Height

10inch+0.125×2=10.25

Sample

먼저 반으로 나눕니다.

Pdf로 만들기 위해서입니다. 

First, divide it in half.

It is to make Pdf file.

왼쪽 그림을 예로 들어 보겠습니다.

먼저 왼쪽을 자른 후 ( 8.375-0.125=8.25)

For example, I'll use the picture on the left.

After the first cut to the left (from 8.375 to 0.125=8.25)

오른쪽을 자릅니다. (8.25-0.08=8.17)

Cut the right. (8.25 to 0.08=8.17)

그 다음 오른쪽을 늘려줍니다.

8.17+0.08=8.25
그럼 안쪽이 잘리지 않고 제대로 나오게 됩니다.

저처럼 복잡하게 자르기 힘드시면
Canvas size에서 안쪽에 0.08 inch만 늘려주세요.

혹시 안쪽에 여백이 출력되면 어떻하냐구요?

여백을 없게 하고 싶어도 CreateSpace는 여백을 인쇄합니다.

아래 사진은 실제 주문한 제 책입니다.

Then, extend the right.
8.17+0.08=8.25
Well, the inside of picture properly appears.
If you can't cut it like me,
just increase the canvas size 0.08inch from the inside.
If you anxious about printing the blank space,
well, CreateSpace will going to print that margin even if you don't want to.

0.08 + 0.08 = 0.16 inch ( 4 mm )

0.16 inch 가 얼마 안될 것 같다구요?

그렇지 않습니다.

보시다시피.

You can see that it's definitely been cut out.

0.08+0.08=0.16inch (4mm)

0.16 inch doesn't seem too much?

It is not.

About Expanded Distribution in CreateSpace (CreateSpace 에서의 Expanded Distribution 에 대해)

일단 결론부터 말하자면 "글쎄 올시다" 입니다.
Expanded Distribution 을 사용하면 온라인에서 뿐만 아니라
오프라인에서도 판매가 가능해집니다.
신청 가격도 25달러로 비싸지는 않은 편입니다.
서점 및 온라인 소매업체(Bookstores and Online Retailers)와
도서관 및 교육기관(Libraries & Academic Institutions) 에
확장배포(Expanded Distribution) 되어집니다.
솔깃하지요?
그래서 3권 아브라함과 이삭 (The Story of Abraham & Isaac)에서는
확장배포(Expanded Distribution) 를 사용했습니다.

My conclusion to say, "I have my doubts."
If you use an Expanded Distribution,
it's enable to sell online as well as offline.
The application price is $25, so it's not that pricey.
It makes your book Scale-out deployment(Expanded Distribution) to the Bookstores and online retailers(Bookstores and Online Retailers) and the Libraries and educational institutions(Libraries & Academic Institutions) as well.
Tempting, right?
So I used the Scale-out deployment(Expanded Distribution) for the book #3 Abraham and Isaac(The Story of Abraham & Isaac).

그리고 다음 옵션을 체크하는데 깜짝 놀랐습니다.
최소한으로 설정하는 책값이 너무 비싸게 설정 되어져 있었습니다.
현재 $ 9.13 인데,
이렇게 하면
서점 및 온라인 소매업체(Bookstores and Online Retailers)와
도서관 및 교육기관(Libraries & Academic Institutions) 에
확장배포(Expanded Distribution) 는 되어지지만 이윤은 전혀 생기지 않습니다.
책 팔아 CreateSpace에만 좋은 일 시키는 꼴이 되었습니다.

나는 최소한의 이윤만을 남기고 많은 미취학아동에게
그림을 보여주고 싶은 것이 꿈인데 말입니다.

지금 1권 (The Story of Eden)에서는 Expanded Distribution을 사용하지 않았습니다.
그랬더니 최소책값이 $ 6.09 가 나왔습니다.
3권보다 책장수가 훨씬 많은데도 말입니다.
그래서 책값은 $ 6.99 로 정했습니다.
Royalty는 $0.54 가 되는군요.
8×10 inch 풀컬러책에 34 페이지 책에다 Royalty가 $0.54 에 책값이 $6.99 면
최소한의 이윤만을 남기고 그림을 보여주고 싶은 것 맞네요 :)

다시 한번 더 결론을 말하자면
Expanded Distribution 을 사용하면 사용하지 않았을 때 비해서
책값이 50% 이상 비싸진다는 결론입니다.
정말 Expanded Distribution 을 사용해야 하는게 옳을까요?

And I was surprised to check the following options.
I should set the price to a minimum
but the setting was already made and it was too expensive.
It is currently $9.13 but when you do this,

You sell your book and it's only good for CreateSpace.

My dream was to show my books to as many preschool children as I can,
leaving only a minimal profit.

Now, I'm not using the Expanded Distribution for the book #1 The Story of Eden.
And the minimum price set up is $6.09.
Even though the page length of the book #1 is much longer than #3.
So the price set to $6.99.
The royalty becomes $0.54.
My book is 8×10inch full-colored book,
plus 34 pages long,
the royalty is $0.54,
and the book price is $6.99.
So I guess I'm leaving only a minimal profit to show my pictures for good. :)

I'm telling you once again,
the price of the book becomes 50% more if you use the Expanded Distribution.
Do you think it would be right to use Expanded Distribution?

Adobe InDesign으로 CreateSpace에서 표지만들 때 사이즈는

오른쪽과 왼쪽이 합쳐진 크기로 만들어서 하나의 파일로 만든 다음

pdf로 변환후 CreateSpace의 cover에 등록합니다.

When you create the cover of Adobe InDesign for CreateSpace,

you have to combined the size of the left and right and make it into one file

then convert to pdf file and register it as a cover in CreateSpace.

page size는 8×10인치.

width는 16 inch.

Heigh는 8 inch.

Margins는 모두 0.125 inch 로 한후 "ok"버튼을 누릅니다.

The page size is 8×10inches.

Width 16inch.

Heigh 8inch.

Margins to 0.125inch and press "ok" buttons for all.

위의 그림처럼 생성이 되었으면 이미 제작한 표지이미지를 

Place하도록 하겠습니다.

Place 는 " File > Place " 또는

Ctrl + D 하면 됩니다.

Once it created as shown above,

then place it with the cover images that already produced.

To place the file, go to the menu "File>Place"

or use Ctrl+D keys.

그림을 Place한 후 움직이다 보면 

위와 같이 빨간선이 가로 세로 모두 보일 때가 중앙입니다.

그런데 그림이 너무 크네요.

사이즈를 조절해 보도록 하겠습니다.

★ 사이즈 조절은 모서리에 Ctrl + Shift를 누른채 조절해야 합니다.

After placing the picture and move around it

then you'll see the red line which tells you that is the center.

But the picture is too big.

Let's adjust the size.

★ The size is adjustable in the corner while holding down the Ctrl+Shift keys.

완성되었습니다.

이제 PDF로 변환해서 등록하면 됩니다.

아마존에서 동화책을 만드시는 분들에게 도움이 되었으면 합니다.

먼저 Adobe InDesign으로 작업하는 과정은 생략하겠습니다.

CreateSpace에 등록하는 과정에서 우리가 아는 인쇄물 제작과정과 많이 다릅니다.

아주 아주 많은 시행착오 끝에 저처럼 힘들어 하지 않았으면 하는 바람으로

함께 공유하고자 합니다.

자~ 그럼 사진으로 설명해 보겠습니다.

I hope this could be helpful to the people who wants to

publish a picture book on Amazon.

First, the process of working with Adobe InDesign will be omitted.

The process of registering in CreateSpace is very different

than the print production process as we know.

I had to go through so many trials and errors.

So I wanted to share my experiences,

hoping that it doesn't give you so much trouble.

위 사진은 이제 업로드한 파일에 문제가 없다는 메시지 입니다.

얼마나 기쁘던지!!!

The photo above shows the message that

the file doesn't have any problem at last!

I can't tell you how thrilled I was!!!

1. 인디자인에서 File>Document Setup을 선택합니다.

Select 'File> Document Setup' in InDesign.

2. 이 부분이 중요합니다.

CreateSpace에서는 Bleed가 최소0.125inch 이상이 필요합니다.

한국에서는 3mm를 필요로 하는데 3mm로 했다간 계속 에러가 뜹니다.

또한 0.125inch를 mm로 계산해도 오차가 있으니 반드시

0.125inch로 합니다!!!

Inside에 0inch가 들어간 것은 접히는 부분에 여백이 없어야

책을 펼쳤을 때  그림이 연결돼 보이겠지요? 

This part is important.

In CreateSpace, it required the 'Bleed' has to be at least 0.125 inch or above.

In Korea, you need 3mm but if you set it as 3mm,

the error message will keep appears and you'll be in troubIe.

In addition, you'll going to have an error if you calculate 0.125inch to mm,

so it must be 0.125inch!

At 'Inside', you can see 0inch

which is to show the connected image when the book is folded.

3.이제 pdf파일로 보내봅시다.

[Press Quality]를 선택합니다.

Now let's send it as a pdf file.

Select [Press Quality]

4. 원래 인쇄물 pdf로 보내기 위해서 필요한 옵션들을 모두 해제합니다.

이부분 또한 아주 중요합니다.

Bleed and Slug는 체크해 놓습니다.

살펴보면 Document Setup에서 설정한 내용이 보이는군요.

Cancel all the necessary options to send the original pdf print.

This part is also very important.

'Bleed and Slug' needs to be checked.

You can see all the contents set in the 'Document Setup'.

5. 이제 pdf 파일을 업로드 하면 됩니다.

Ends after the edge of the page를 선택합니다.

그래야 책에 꽉차게 그림이 들어갑니다.

오른쪽에 있는 옵션을 선택하면 흰색라인이 생깁니다.

Now you can upload the pdf file.

Select 'Ends after the edge of the page'.

So the picture will be fully filled in the book without any space.

If you select the option to the right, the white line will be appear.

일단 기본적인 제작과정은 알고 있다는 과정하에 중요한 핵심부분만 알려드립니다.

이 부분을 알기 위해 적어도 30시간 이상이 걸렸습니다.

하루 6시간씩만 잡아도 꼬박 5일이 걸리네요.

다른 작업과 병행하다보니 이 부분을 아는데 2주가 걸렸습니다.

도움이 많이 되기를 바랍니다.

I explained only the important part under the assumption that

the readers of this article knows the basic production process.

To learn this part took me more than 30 hours at least.

If you work on 6 hours each day, it'll take the whole 5 days.

But it took me 2 weeks to learn because

I've been combining this work with some other job.
